Increased minimum penalty for contraventions under the Ontario Immigration Act or its regulations
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has changed the formula used to calculate administrative monetary penalties (AMPs) for employers, representatives, and recruiters, as well as those who acquire a financial benefit for contraventions under the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015 (OIA) or its regulations. The change increases the minimum AMP amount from $2,000 to $10,000 for employers, recruiters and people or bodies that acquired a financial benefit from the offense.

On July 16, 2024, we issued invitations to apply to potential candidates in the Expression of Interest system pool who may qualify for the Employer Job Offer: In Demand Skills stream. Candidates only received an invitation if they had a score of 35 and above.

Program Update – Employers with Mobile Workers
Please note that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has updated its Employer Guide and related Employer Job Offer stream pages to clarify the minimum number of employees that an employer must have when the employer employs mobile workers. This includes, as an example, employers in the construction industry with workers who work at more than one “job” location.

June 3, 2024: Alberta Opportunity Stream application acceptance resumes on June 11
The Alberta Opportunity Stream will resume accepting applications on June 11, under new guidelines. This new approach will result in better processing times and also offer applicants multiple opportunities to apply to the program for the limited number of available provincial nomination certificates.Important factsApplications will be accepted on 7 dates for the remainder of 2024, one per month:Each month a specific number of applications will be accepted.When that target is reached, no further applications will be accepted until the next date. The target is subject to change.Applications acceptance dates, application targets, estimates and processing times are posted on AAIP processing times and application levels. They are subject to change.Applicants and prospective applicants should visit regularly for the most current information.Note: Alberta received 9,750 nominations from the federal government which is the maximum number of provincial nomination certificates that can be issued in 2024.
